On April 7, firefighters and the Harris County Hazardous Materials Response Team (HCFMO) responded to a major industrial fire that occurred in the 1000 block of Lakeside Drive in the Channelview area.

According to Harris County firefighters, the two-alarm fire started in the late afternoon at 4:00 p.m., around the time local residents reported hearing loud noises and seeing a huge plume of black smoke fill the air.

Harris County Sheriffs were forced to shut down Lakeside, Northshore, Hardy, and De Zavala Streets to allow response crews to work the fire. According to Rachel Moreno of the Harris County Fire Marshall’s office, the building that erupted in flames is owned by K-Solv, a chemical distribution company.

In response to the industrial fire, K-Solv tweeted the following:

“There is an active situation occurring at the K-Solv Chemicals facility located in Channelview, TX. All employees are safe and accounted for. Firefighters and response crews are responding to the scene. We are monitoring the air quality and will have updates to follow.”

At the time of this writing, the cause of the fire remains unclear and no evacuations or shelter-in-place orders have been issued.
