A construction accident on the I-10 west of Beaumont resulted in the tragic death of two men on April 23, 2021. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) said the two men died at the scene after the boom of a crane fell onto the I-10 and crushed the 2013 Toyota pickup they were inside of. Construction crews were working in the area with the heavy crane at the time of the accident.
Although DPS is overseeing the investigation, OSHA and federal officials are also helping out since there were fatalities involved in the incident. The Texas Department of Transportation has also sent their own investigators to assist since the fatal accident involved a contractor who was working on the I-10 widening project.
